There is less than a day left for Tauranga residents to have their say in the Tauranga City Council byelection and museum referendum.

Voting closes at 12pm on Tuesday and the council's electoral officer Warwick Lampp said voting papers needed to be dropped into council or a local library to ensure votes counted.

The byelection is being held to fill the position left vacant by the death of Councillor Gail McIntosh.

People do have time to make a special vote by going in to the council's customer service centre in Willow St if you: are not enrolled in Tauranga or have changed your address since April 1, do not have your voter pack or are on the unpublished electoral roll.

Candidates standing in the byelection include:
Sheldon Nesdale
Buddy Mikaere
Lester Gray
MJ Anderson
Tony Christiansen
Rosie Dawson-Hewes
Yvette Lamare
Mark Wassung
Douglas Owens
Bill Faulkner
Anne Pankhurst
Gillian Cook
Andrew Ragg
Talia Harvey
David Leo Tank
Robert Curtis
Murray Guy
John Robson
Peter Stanley
Zeepra Lemoto
