Western Bay stores selling legal highs could be confined to the Katikati and Te Puke town centre commercial zones.
The Western Bay District Council is drafting a policy to control the location of legal high retailers in the district.
Mayor Ross Paterson said the draft policy proposes limiting the locationof legal high retailers in the District to the Katikati and Te Puke town centre commercial zones and requires that retailers be separated by at least 750 metres and are at least 100 metres from sensitive sites, such as schools, kindergartens, childcare centres and libraries.
Mr Paterson said late last year the community made it very clear they wanted legal high retailers gone or closely monitored.
The Psychoactive Substances Act, which became law in July 2013, allows councils to specify where the drugs can and can not be sold but councils can not prohibit them.
