National needs to move back to the centre before it can attract the deserting voters back and regain power. That cuts out Collins, Luxon and Bridges. Currently National seems more interested in internal power politics than ousting Labour

I think we all know what his true happiness will be ... he's so much more electable than Judith Collins. Bridges and Nicola Willis, Luxon as finance minister. Way to go!

Simon Wilson: No kumbaya please, I'm Simon Bridges
You're a good man Simon. Here's a bit of superficial but practical advice. Get a haircut. This shouldn't matter but it does. It shouldn't matter if you wore a mankini either but it would.

About his 'accent' - or should it be 'eksent'? It seemed to me that the mockers and deriders and the condescenders did not all come from the Right. They came from the Left.
Do you remember Naomi Lange and her pink cardies? It was the Labourites and the Left who sneered at her. My point is that toffiness, snobbery, sense of entitlement, condescension are not necessarily the preserve of Right wing snobs.

Good article. I never really thought of him as a populist, yet after reading this, I now think Bridges probably is. I don't think it would have mattered a jot whether Bridges was rolled or not, the National Party poll results would have eventually taken a dive. Muller winning the vote merely sped things up. Having said all that, politics is a tough business, and good politicians are a special breed. They're tough and bright, and have earned media and Joe Public's underlying respect - irrespective of deserved criticisms.
