The Brexit decision made for a very sad day for the British Labour Party, noted the Right Honourable Winston Peters to a standing-room-only crowd at Matua Hall in Tauranga last week. This is because British workers went out and overwhelmingly voted to leave the European Union despite the Labour Party's vigorous campaign encouraging them to vote not to leave the EU. This exemplifies just how out of touch with the people the Labour Party really is.

When politicians forget why they were put into power; the people will vote them out. Our democracy is important. And our people matter.

We can see this same sad, out-of-touch theme playing out right here in New Zealand. This Government continues to allow people to walk in, buy land and vote within one year. Which other country in the world offers this type of democracy?

Just how out of touch this Government has become is evident in the wasted $26 million dollars on the flag referendum and the signed Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) against the wishes of the voter and the common sense of the masses. Even the United States presidential candidates are saying 'No' to the TPPA due to the extreme corporate control and loss of sovereignty it signifies.

Where a Government wills not to listen, the vote of the people will force their notice.
