A Tauranga teenager is in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital after breaking his left arm and pelvis in a motocross crash on Saturday.
The 14-year-old Papamoa teen was practicing at the Awakaponga Motocross Track, near Edgecumbe, when he came off his bike about 1pm.
He was taken to Whakatane Hospital by ambulance before being airlifted to Waikato Hospital in the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance about 9pm that night.
Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance helicopter pilot Dan Harcourt said the boy was in a serious condition but was stable and conscious when he was airlifted to hospital.
An intensive care retrieval team from Waikato Hospital cared for the boy in-flight.
