Te Puna Quarry Park has lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment in a break-in during the weekend.

Dulcie Artus, the secretary for the park's incorporated society, said the break-in happened on Saturday or Sunday and a "wild guess" of the losses was about $25,000.

Among the stolen items included a Suzuki mini truck, a ride-on Masport mower, several chainsaws and weed eaters, a generator, an arc welder and various other tools.

Artus said the park's volunteers were "pretty hacked off".

"We can't do any work without those tools."

The items would need to be replaced. Artus said insurance would cover the thefts but she did not believe the payout would be enough to replace what was taken.

The ride-on mower was only 12 months old.

"It cost $12,000, we got $10,000 from Pub Charity for it."
