Tauranga fire services were called to Te Puna last night after what fire fighters believed to be an electrical fire started in a car.
Emergency services were called about 10pm to Armstrong Rd, after a car in a shed started smoking.
Tauranga Fire Service senior officer Paul Mellsop said fire fighters immediately went to work pulling the car from the shed.
Mr Mellsop said the fire could have been a lot worse, if not for the quick action of the fire fighters.
The suspected electrical fire started in the engine and engulfed the rest of the car, he said.
