Lints was also concerned the local foodbank was struggling to keep up with demand in the lead-up to Christmas.
"The idea of families going without food in our community was not going to happen, in my eyes," Lints said.
Lints roped in the help of Nicole Hapi and Dale Snell. Together the three have created a day of live entertainment, children's rides and markets. They hope people coming along will also bring a small contribution for the foodbank.
I want all children in the community to have a better future no matter what their background. It's true that it takes a village to raise a child. If everybody can put in here and there, the world would be a happier place.
"We literally had no negative feedback from anyone in the community. It's just fantastic. The idea is that everyone brings a can or non-perishable food item," Lints said.
She hoped the day would help create some cheer for families that might be struggling or other families just looking for a fun day out.
Lints said Jubilee Park also offered public barbecues and children's playgrounds "so it's perfect for a picnic".
"For me, it's the kids, that thought of children going without daily, it just ... I really struggle with that.

Lints said there was plenty of event parking organised and asked people to avoid parking in New World's carpark in what was one of its busiest days of the year.
