''She's a very pretty person and is really struggling with having no hair. I think the blog she wrote when her hair fell out was what made me decide to shave [mine] because I was really sad,'' says Pru.
''I thought, "she's bald, maybe I can give up my vanity for a little while and I'll be bald too".''
Up until six months ago, Pru's hair was down to her waist. Then she had it cut to shoulder length to mentally prepare herself.
''I don't think I could have done it if my hair had been as long as it was six months ago. I think the fear would have been to extreme.''
Even then, it was a big decision to sign up.
''I was really nervous when I first signed up for it. I procrastinated for about three days, then I bit the bullet and as soon as I did it and started getting donations I felt a little bit more validated.
She says her fear was not about being bald but that she didn't raise as much money as she hoped.
''But in the first 24 hours, when people started to donate, that went away. Now I'm not worried at all - and it's hair, it will grow back.''
Pru has set the goal of raising $3000 and while the money will go to the Australian Leukaemia Foundation, there will be benefits to Kiwis.
''They support New Zealand families in Australia and all the research that the Leukaemia foundation in Australia does is sent over to New Zealand.''
The head shave will be at 12.30pm on Saturday at the market in Jubilee Park. Rochelle Oldeman from Barbz will be in charge of the clippers.
