Mr Merwe said expressions of interests had been high and the calibre of the property represented fantastic value for money.
The buyers would move into the house and work in Tauranga, Ms Gardner said.
Simon Anderson, chief executive of Realty Services, which operates Bayleys and Eves, said there was a steady market in Te Puke, especially for medium to lower price properties.
But the million dollar plus sale was a standout considering it was not a lifestyle block or part of an orchard, he said.
"Te Puke is a popular place to live and a number of subdivisions are being built out there at the moment on the verge of town. As Papamoa expands it has become more and more popular.
"In the past, it was more of a support town for the horticulture and agriculture sector", but that had changed with easy access into Tauranga and Mount Maunganui, he said.
Te Puke Economic Development Group managing director Mark Boyle said there was clearly a high degree of interest in the township because of its location and lifestyle opportunities.
''Te Puke is unique as it has a country feel and is secure, safe and sustainable. The place is built on that and people are aware of its uniqueness.''
Mr Boyle said the Te Puke Highway had been done up, the town layout had changed and the kiwifruit industry was "powering along".
The strong economy meant it was good for business, good for families and Te Puke properties were great value for money.
Epic Te Puke chairwoman Sue Peat said there was a positive vibe in the town and four new businesses had opened recently.
The council had also beautified the town in a bid to make it a safer and more attractive place to shop and the community board was investigating more parking options, she said.
