Firefighters responding to reports of a forklift on fire at a Te Puke packhouse were a little surprised when they arrived.

A northern fire communications spokesman said firefighters were called to the fire at the EastPack pack house on Quarry Rd at 10.14am.

The spokesman said initial reports were that a forklift was on fire, but firefighters managed to pull the forklift from the flames which were burning in a "big rubbish bin".

One firetruck from the Te Puke fire brigade attended.
