The Nikon/NZIPP Iris Awards are the country's biggest print awards competition for professional photographers and are judged over 12 categories.
That also included family, portrait, nature and travel, and landscape photography.
The IRIS Awards were handed out at a gala ceremony in Wellington on Monday.
Aitken, who photographs weddings all around the country, said he made the trip down to Wellington in the hope that he would win at least one of the categories.
"It's my eighth year entering and my heart still beats fast every time one of my photographs comes up for judging," he said.
"To win two prestigious national awards is amazing and I'm super stoked to be able to say that I am the NZIPP's Wedding Photographer of the Year for 2018."
Aitken also has another two trophies to put on his mantel, plus he won $1000.
He described his style of photography as "documentary or telling a story".
"It's an absolute privilege to have couples trust me to document and capture those special moments on their big day," Aitken said.
Marama Shearer, the NZIPP's Waikato/Bay of Plenty regional representative, said: "We are incredibly proud of Justin and hold him in high regard."
"Justin's entries in the Iris Awards continue to be innovative and an excellent example of professional photography within our industry," she said.
Shearer said Aitken had demonstrated "superior communication" with his creative flair and ability to evoke an emotional response from those who viewed his work.
"We can all aspire to reach his level of creativity in our own photography and we look forward to watching his development over the coming year," Shearer said.
