Insects found on imported kiwifruit in a Tauranga supermarket have sparked serious concern at New Zealand's bio-security risk.
Kiwifruit Vine Health chief executive Barry O'Neill said the discovery of the two white peach scale insects could have huge ramifications for the industry and growers were seriously concerned.
The kiwifruit advocacy group formed in the fall out from PSA.
The Ministry of Primary Industries investigated the incident.
Although the insects were found to be "non-viable" and no other scales were found in the fruit, Mr O'Neill said the industry needed to be vigilant against any future bio-security risks.
