Whānau of methamphetamine addicts will be able to find out about the support services available to them at a forum today.
The P awareness forum, run by Breakthrough Forum Tauranga and hosted by Family Link, a Western Bay of Plenty mental health and addiction service, is being held at the Historic Village Hall from 6pm to 8pm. The Breakthrough Forum Tauranga is a group of agencies working collaboratively on strategies for reducing the usage of P in the Western Bay of Plenty. It is a free service.
Family Link manager Brian Thomas said talking to other addiction service providers confirmed methamphetamine use was continuing to rise across the Bay of Plenty.
"Methamphetamine, in particular, is a horrible drug that touches the lives of so many people in our community regardless of their age, gender or status in life," Thomas said.
"Families can be torn apart and burned out by the effects of loved ones being addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.
