Police say it is lucky no one had been walking along the street when a woman allegedly nearly five times over the legal alcohol limit crashed into a parked car in a suburban street.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing acting Senior Sergeant Wayne Hunter said police were called to Bellevue Rd about 6.30pm on Sunday after reports of a car crash.
When police arrived they found a vehicle had crashed into a parked car. The driver allegedly recorded a reading of 1240 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath - which is nearly five times the legal limit of 250mcg.
"With that level you're going to hurt somebody," Hunter said.
He said at that time of day people could have been out walking with their families or walking to and from the nearby supermarket.
