Tauranga organisations recognised at accessibility awards

A retirement village, shopping mall and a Papamoa Airbnb are among honourees in the second annual Accessibility Awards.

The five awards were handed out by Tauranga mayor Greg Brownless at a Tauranga City council community and culture meeting this afternoon.

The Anchor AIMS Games were the first winners of a new category recognising the most inclusive community event.

Papamoa Airbnb Studio Nautilus, accommodation designed for people with disabilities, was named the most inclusive small business.

Bayfair shopping centre was named the most inclusive large business for the second year in a row.

The most accessible and inclusive building development award went to Cudby Homes, which has developed two homes that meet universal design standards.

The Sanderson Group won the award for the most accessible and inclusive building award for its development of Bethlehem Shores.

MP Jan Tinetti and councillor Leanne Brown were judges of the awards, led by the council's disability advisory group.
