Police need the public's help to locate Tauranga man Brendan Steve Allan.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said Allan, 37, was wanted in relation to warrants for arrest after he failed to appear in the Tauranga District Court on August 16.

Allan is facing charges of possession of a pistol, possession of methamphetamine and driving while disqualified, Turner said.

"We believe that Allan is actively trying to avoid police and he has altered his appearance in the last week by shaving off his beard and long hair," he said.

Turner warned that Allan should not be approached and anyone who has any information about his whereabouts should immediately ring the police.
