High temperatures, moist air and a week of showers will set Tauranga up for some muggy conditions this week.

MetService meteorologist Andy Best said the area can expect a week of showers that will turn to rain later in the week.

Moist air combined with temperatures around 23 to 25C will likely create "subtropical" conditions for the area, he said.

Tauranga residents can also expect some warm and sticky nights with overnight temperatures sitting around 16 and 18C.

Warm northerly winds cover the country today, ahead of a front approaching from the Tasman Sea. Maximum temperatures are especially warm about eastern areas. For all your weather needs go to https://t.co/Yjbq0jxdqz ^AB pic.twitter.com/vBqNX7xOqQ
