Tauranga construction company Greenway Developments Limited has been fined $25,000 and must pay $5000 reparation after a contract worker was injured after falling from the roof of a garage under construction.
The residential property construction company was sentenced in the Tauranga District Court today on a charge of failing to take all practicable steps to ensure that a contractor was not harmed while doing work he was engaged to do.
The Health and Safety in Employment Act prosecution stemmed from the contractor falling from the the roof of a garage being constructed at a property in Fasching Lane, Tauriko on May 13 last year.
The contractor was assisting others to secure a truss to the top plate of the garage when it slipped, lost his balance and fell about three metres to the concrete floor below.
The victim sustained fractures to his left wrist and jaw.
