The topics up for debate when Tauranga City Council's Long Term Plan 2018-2028 goes out for public consultation in March have been decided.

Topics in the consultation document include rating structure, city centre investment in a museum and library, transport network, rates-funded kerbside waste and recycling collections.

Tsunami alerting, elder housing and Tourism Bay of Plenty annual funding were also topics included in the plan.

Mayor Greg Brownless said the consultation topics reflected the council's aspiration for Tauranga to be a great city, with a higher standard of living for all.

"We've been doing a lot of work to decide how best to deliver a city that strikes the right balance of economic, social, cultural and environmental well-being," Brownless said.

"The topics up for community consultation later this year reflect how we can achieve this, but we can't do our LTP planning alone. It's only by turning to our community that we decide what to prioritise and what is in the best interests of our city."

Brownless said the formal consultation would run from March 16 to April 16.

"This is when you will see what has been proposed in the Consultation Document and the detail that supports it," Brownless said.

"We'll be providing much more detail about each of these topics as the consultation period approaches, so please have a think about what's important to you and keep an eye out for more information."

The draft Long Term Plan outlines the council's proposed strategy and plan for the next decade and beyond. It outlines how these strategies and plans are proposed to be funded up to 10 years ahead, and in detail for the first three years.
