The Equinox team from Tauranga Boys' College has won the 2014 Trustpower mashup competition with their project about saving power.
Team members William Clelland, Duncan de Wet and Dominic Pattiere created a Power Save interface where homeowners could work out how much power various devices in their houses were using.
Their clever use of an algorithm meant that people could track energy use over time and see what effect making certain changes would have.
Their website would also be useful to prospective homeowners who could make comparisons between homes to see what the energy use was in each building.
Ten teams from secondary schools in the Bay of Plenty took part in the weekend competition where students used IT, marketing and business planning skills to address real life business scenarios.
