Reigning Ironman New Zealand champion Hannah Wells is preparing to hit the start line for the first time in almost six months at Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast in Australia on Sunday.
Wells, who claimed victory in her first-ever Ironman in Taupō in March, returns at the weekend to the racing format in which she's had much success, taking on the 1.9km swim, 90km ride, and 21km run on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
"I've been over here on the Sunshine Coast for a bit over two months and the idea in coming over was to put in a big block of winter training this year, I've been doing that over here and it's been going pretty well," Wells said.
"A huge amount of volume has been done, I haven't done a heap of intensity because the focus has been on the volume block at this stage.
"Going into the race, I'm excited to have the opportunity to race first, a nice chance to break up the big training blocks that I'm doing here, it's so nice to have the opportunity to be on the start line."
