Giving up their lunchtimes to learn animation paid off for three boys who took out the top prize at a national digital media competition.
Fairhaven School students Daniel Walsley, 11, Levi Nicholson, 11, and Tuawhenua Downes, 10, with the help of teacher Lisa Stowell, were the supreme winners of the MADE Awards.
The awards were started by Tahatai Coast School and Selwyn Ridge School five years ago and in that time the number of entries has grown to 500 groups from across the country.
The awards are in six categories - static image, manipulated image, documentary, story telling, commercial and music video. The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday night at ASB Arena.
The boys entered the commercial section and made a 30sec clip using stop motion animation, or hundreds of sequential photos, about Fairhaven School's Book Week.
