The quick-witted owners of a Mount Maunganui sign-writing company have fought paint with paint after their billboard was crudely attacked by taggers over the weekend.
Shane and Angela Hale were left angry after a giant billboard advertising their business Sign Creations was defaced, so decided to do a little tagging of their own.
Mrs Hale joked that she had had the graffiti "professionally analysed" and had "cracked the code" as to what the tagger's message meant.
So yesterday they put up a new sign above the graffiti, with large words reading: "This means I have a tiny weenie".
She believed the translation would finally also shed light on what the graffiti on election billboards around Tauranga meant as well.
"The council pays tens of thousands dollars each year to remove graffiti from around the city.
"For us to discover what they'd done to our billboard was gut-wrenching, it was just destructive action," she said.
