The Tauranga SPCA Dog Squad has been around for about 10 years. They are a lovely group of people with their pets who generously give their valuable time for the SPCA.
One of the many important activities the Dog Squad undertakes is to visit various Rest Homes and Retirement Villages, offering pet therapy for residents, which includes hospital wings and general care areas. They also visit private rooms for those who are unable to move freely but look forward to their "pet cuddle". These visits are tremendously important and the residents wait with much anticipation for the next visit, which gives them the opportunity to interact with our four-legged friends.
The joy and delight the residents get from these visits is overwhelming and extremely obvious, one could describe it as bringing a tear to the eye. This joy is felt not only by the residents but the members of the Dog Squad.
These visits have now become so popular our forever faithful Dog Squad Co-ordinator, Ali, needs someone reliable to share the responsibility with.
This would involve a small commitment of three or four mornings a month from approximately 10.30am to 12pm. You would be able to choose your own rest home/village to visit, and the days you are available, team members are then advised by you as to new dates and times they can attend and along they come with their faithful friends who, as you could well imagine, also love and strive for every minute of the attention they receive.
