Like many of you, I am continually staggered at just how expensive food is these days.
Not one to go grocery shopping on a regular basis, I do find myself in a supermarket from time to time.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't believe how dear meat was. And some
vegetables. This must make life extremely hard for some people.
And then, of course, there's milk.
Milk prices have featured prominently in the news lately and will be the subject of a parliamentary inquiry into why they are so high when we are a leading milk producer.
In today's edition, senior writer Ellen Irvine investigates milk prices in the Bay and discovers it pays to shop around.
She found some huge differences in prices.
While some people prefer certain types of milk and don't mind paying more, and are more health conscious than others, the bottom line is if price matters, then you can save money.
Whatever the outcome of the inquiry, shoppers still have the ultimate power here.
They can vote with their feet.
