A severe gale warning has been issued for the Western Bay of Plenty this morning.
Metservice stated this morning a very cold and strong southwest flow had covered the South Island today, with southwest gales expected in a number of places.
While the strongest winds were likely in the east of the South Island, a warning has been issued for several places in New Zealand including the Western Bay of Plenty.
Snow has fallen to near sea level in the lower South Island. A Heavy Snow Warning was in force for Banks Peninsula.
