A 14-year-old boy was knocked unconscious and is understood to have suffered a minor seizure after an altercation with another international student at Tauranga Boys' College yesterday.
An ambulance was called to the school about 10.15am after the Welcome Bay boy was pushed by another 15-year-old student, and fell and hit his head on a wooden deck.
Deputy principal Richard Hall said the boys, who lived with homestay families, came to blows between classes.
He said they were arguing over an issue which related to something outside of the school.
St John Mount Maunganui acting team manager Sean O'Connor said ambulance staff were told the boy may have suffered a minor seizure after the impact of the blow knocked him unconscious.
He was able to walk to the ambulance and was taken to Tauranga Hospital for observation, having suffered a minor concussion.
Mr Hall said both the boys' homestay parents and their parents overseas would be informed.
Police were called to the school following the incident but said no action would be taken.
Mr Hall said the school took incidents like this very seriously and would be taking "appropriate action" with the boys once they knew more about what had happened.
