Police should patrol our school crossings
Re: School children's lives in danger (Bay of Plenty Times, April 7).
Why not have a police officer direct traffic at each school during the times in the morning and afternoon when children are arriving at and leaving schools? Some people seem to only respond when
if affects their wallet and being issued a ticket just might be what needs to be done.
More funds should be provided to the police so that they can allow to have appropriate coverage.
If a police officer is at each school and their patrol vehicle's flashing lights are on and they are ready to stop a car or jot down a licence plate number, then those careless drivers can be fined.
People are always more cautious around cops.
They have a tough job to do and hopefully being present at the school crossings can alleviate them having to be called out for a child being killed.
A higher fine should be given when speeding or driving carelessly in a school zone to pay the police department.
Kristy Smith, Welcome Bay

This week's letter will receive a complimentary Lotto ticket from Tauranga City Lotto shop, 44 Grey St.
