State Highway 30 at Lake Rotoiti is closed following a serious crash.
The two-vehicle crash happened shortly before 11.40am and there are serious injuries, police said.
“Motorists travelling north from Rotorua will need to take State Highway 33 between Tikitere and Paengaroa, before utilising State Highway 2,” a police statement said.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the crash is west of Tamateatutahi St, beside Lake Rotoiti.
“Due to a serious crash just west of Tamateatutahi St, beside Lake Rotoiti, SH30 is closed between Tikitere (SH33) and Kawerau Rd West (SH34).
“Delay your journey or allow extra time for a long detour.”
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance and one Primary Response in Medical Emergencies responder went to the scene.
The spokesperson said one patient in a moderate condition was being transported to Rotorua Hospital but referred any other information requests to police.
