He's achieved a lot for his community but what Pat Taylor is most proud of is his family, who have inherited his love for making a difference.
Mr Taylor started his life as a banker, then later in life bought a motel which he ran with wife Bernie, who took over much of its running so Mr Taylor was able to get out and work on community projects in thanks for his "lucky, wonderful life".
"One mistake I make regularly is I don't know how to say no," Mr Taylor said.
He has been in Rotary for 30 years, contributing to the well-being of South Auckland and now Tauranga.
But it is his work with the Manukau Beautification Trust that takes up most of his time - he has spent years trying to get rid of graffiti in "the Southern Hemisphere's capital of tagging" and is now focusing on beautifying the city and improving its environmental features.
