A section of Rocky Cutting Road has been closed to traffic as a safety precaution overnight.
The road was closed to all traffic from house number 354 onwards due to the threat of falling rocks and/or trees from the surrounding bank.
Council transport manager Alex Finn said a number of rocks, trees and vegetation had loosened due to yesterday's heavy rain and there was concern some objects could fall onto the road.
"Our contractors have assessed the site and were concerned for the safety of motorists who could be using the road overnight.
"Because of this we've made the decision to close the road until our engineers can make a proper assessment in the morning."
