Motorists travelling between Tauranga and Rotorua through Pyes Pa are being warned to expect minor delays as works to improve the intersection of State HIghway 36 and Oropi Rd begin on Monday.
New Zealand Transport Agency highways manager Brett Gliddon said the work was to improve safety at the intersection by providing a right turn bay for traffic turning into Oropi Rd.
Mr Gliddon said a 1.3km length of road would be improved as part of this work which would also include road resurfacing and shoulder widening to improve visibility for drivers at the intersection.
The works are expected to be finished by late October.
A manual Stop/Go operation will be in place, drivers are advised to allow additional time in their journey due to the minor delays.
