State Highway 2 at Whakamārama has reopened after a crash involving two cars blocked the road.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to the two-car crash on SH2 between Te Puna Quarry Rd and Ainsworth Rd at 10.30am.

The crash was completely blocking the road but had since reopened, the spokeswoman said.

"It was down to one lane for a while and then fully reopened," she said.

A St John Ambulance media spokeswoman said one person has been taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries.
