It takes a lot to infuriate America, even today, it has to be on the scale of September 11 to do so and it's the same with Britain, New Zealand, Australia, France and Germany.
Oh, you see the occasional flare up over things but, in general, the populations have a live-and-let-live attitude.
And people can usually say the most outrageous things without doing more than copping a bit of criticism.
Take for example the man down Hawke's Bay way who called upon all Muslims in this country to support the Islamic State, which has been responsible for beheading people, massacring entire villages and not allowing people to choose which religion they will follow.
Te Amorangi Kireka-Whaanga, the head of a group called the Aotearoa Maori Muslim Association, made the call despite the fact 99.9 per cent of Muslims want nothing to do with extremism and want to live their lives in peace with their families and within our communities.
I'm sure most Muslims in New Zealand would want him to do what he wants to do - that is fly off to Syria to join Isis.
In fact we all should happily pay for his ticket then shut the border to him forever.
As an aside I did find it highly amusing when a couple of young Austrian gals secretly went to join Isis only to quickly find themselves married off and pregnant in very quick time.
In an April note Samra Kesinovic, 17, and friend Sabina Selimovic, 15, told their parents: "Don't look for us. We will serve Allah, and we will die for him."
They are now reported to want to go home, but Austrian officials say that is impossible.
Bad luck gals, shouldn't have been so quick to jump into the arms of a pack of deranged mysognists.
Now while people are free to spout whatever they want to, we have seen too many occasions where radicals have brainwashed young idiots into committing terrible atrocities.
The most glaring example were London bombings in 2005 perpetrated by homegrown British terrorists.
More than 50 people died and 700 injured in those attacks on the transport system.
Then there is the case of the Aussie Muslim who joined Isis and had his young son hold up severed heads for a video camera.
What sort of father does that?
And across the Tasman security forces foiled a plot to kidnap people on the street and behead them.
People who are involved in planning such atrocities have gone beyond the protection of a civilised society and deserve to be thrown into the darkest cells and just left to rot.
And Muslims in Western countries must see them for the threat they are for while jihadists may cause some terror in the streets, what they are actually doing is endangering fellow Muslims.
Just imagine what would have happened in Britain if the recently foiled plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II - by stabbing her at a Remembrance Day service - had been successful.
In my view, there would not be a mosque left standing in the entire country.
To protect themselves and their communities, Muslims must keep an eye out for - and report - radical activity within their own ranks.
It is not good enough to turn a blind eye.
