The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Omanawa Falls to help a male who had fallen.
The 30-year-old was wenched out of the area and transferred to an ambulance where he was taken to Tauranga Hospital.
St John ambulance spokesman Gerard Campbell said the patient had suffered moderate injuries.
A police media spokeswoman said Search and Rescue were called to the scene but were not required.
