This afternoon the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Matakana Island where a 12 year old local girl had fallen from her horse.
She received lower leg injuries as well as a suspected neck injury.
She was tended to by the Matakana Island first responders, then the helicopter medic stabilised her injuries before she was flown to Tauranga hospital for treatment.
The rescue helicopter was tasked because of the quick and easy access to hospital it provides those who are sick or injured on the island.
