The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called on to help patients from a serious crash involving seven patients north of Rotorua.

The crash happened about 4.30pm yesterday at Ngongataha.

The helicopter was returning to Tauranga from delivering a cardiac patient to an Auckland hospital when it was diverted to Ngongataha with an Intensive Care Paramedic on board, as resources where stretched in the region.

The helicopter flew a 13-year-old Rotorua girl who had received serious leg injuries in the crash to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.
