Wellington's Watt family snuggled in and watched DVDs when half of Mount Maunganui's winning formula went missing for a chunk of the weekend.
The sun and the surf was the drawcard that had seen the family holiday at the Mount Mount Beachside Holiday Park for 13 years.
So when the it started "persisting" yesterday, culminating in heavy downpours later in the morning, they just battened down the hatches and watched movies.
The Watts weren't going to let a bit of rain get in the way of enjoying their holiday which started on December 22. They brought a little bit of Christmas to the camping ground with a decorated Christmas tree adorning the front of their big tent.
Richard and Megan Watt and daughters Tori (15) and Brooke (20) are all hooked on the beach, with the girls being active members of the Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club. The only slight niggle from all the rain was a little bit of a flood on the kitchen floor.
