The outstanding success of the quick-fire WBOPCA Colts competition last season has resulted in a senior secondary grade being added to last year's junior secondary and primary divisions for the 2016-17 competition.
The aim of the colts competition, which would run over the next three weekends, was to align primary, junior secondary and senior secondary players with four Western Bay of Plenty clubs.
While some Saturday morning junior cricket sides play under the banner of local clubs, it had been recognised that the players lose their club connection in the transition to the WBOPCA secondary schools competitions.
Western Bay of Plenty senior secondary (Years 11-13) players would join their primary (Year 7 & 8) junior secondary (Year 9 & 10) counterparts in three weekends of representative cricket action that starts on Sunday.
