Power to the remaining 263 customers in Katikati has been restored by generator as investigations continue into the major outage.

Powerco said this morning the remaining customers had power restored just before midnight Tuesday.

In total, 789 customers lost power just after 9am yesterday due to what Powerco believed to be an underground cable fault.

After the initial outage, 58 customers had their power restored within an hour but extra field crews were sent to the area to find the fault, which initially proved hard to find.

Another 468 customers had their power restored later in the day.

Initially, the estimated restoration time was 6pm.

In a statement, Powerco thanked customers for their patience and understanding as field crews worked to restore supply.

Earlier, power was out to 18 properties in Waihī but this had since been restored.
