Power has been restored to homes in Te Puna after a car crashed into a power pole this morning.

Police were called to Te Puna Station Rd, near the intersection which meets Te Puna Rd, shortly after 9am.

The car had crashed into a power pole and then continued into a ditch.

A police media spokeswoman said power lines were covering the road but had now been cleared.

"The driver was out of the car and had minor injuries," the spokeswoman said.

A witness told the Bay of Plenty Times that they experienced a power cut this morning which prompted them to look up the street where they saw a car covered in power lines.

"The car was completely crushed," the person said.
