Power pole falls on Mount Maunganui street, 25 without power

A crash has caused a power pole to fall down on a Mount Maunganui street.

Police were called to the scene at the intersection of Hull Rd and Totara St about 2.30am, a police spokeswoman said.

She said the car had collided with the pole causing it to fall down.

The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, she said.

Power contractors and emergency services worked to clear the road, leaving the scene about 4am.

PowerCo was reporting that 25 properties lost power as a result of the crash.
