Power is out to more than 100 properties in Waihī after a truck reportedly crashed into three power poles.
Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh said the crash on Kenny Rd about 6.30am cut power supply to 130 customers in the commercial and industrial area of town.
"There is considerable damage to the network and we are assessing the extent of that," he said.
"There are three poles down but this has impacted on the stability of other poles in the immediate vicinity. Two underground cables are damaged along with a number of overhead assets."
The area had been isolated and traffic detours put in place to assist contractors as they start repair work, Marsh said.
