Police warn Bay 'beware the scammers'

Police have released a fresh warning as suspicious phone calls from scammers appear to be making the rounds again.

Five people contacted police yesterday to report suspicious calls from someone claiming to be from Microsoft and requesting access to their details and computer details.

A warning on the Bay of Plenty police Facebook page stated that all five people recognised it as a scam and hung up.

We don't want to have anyone caught out by this, so please make your friends and family aware that this scam appears to be active again in our district, the police post stated.

''Whatever the approach by the caller, our advice is to never provide details relating to your computer to strangers over the phone.

''You can find advice about current scams and you can report scams via the Consumer Affairs website.''
