A stranger who helped a distraught 9-year-old girl is being urgently sought by Tauranga police.
The young girl had been walking to school on Park Rd, Katikati, about 8am when an incident occurred, causing her to become upset and attracting the aid of the good Samaritan.
Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said police were hoping to speak to the woman, who has only been described as driving a gold-coloured vehicle. "We are trying to find this woman who allegedly helped this young girl get away from a situation."
Mr Brazier said they were speaking to the girl to establish why she was so upset and learned the woman stopped to help and walked with her about 100m to school.
"We are working closely with the girl's parents. She has been pretty traumatised by something that's gone on."
