Eastern Bay of Plenty Police are investigating a robbery that took place in Whakatane earlier this morning.

Sergeant Ray Wylie said the incident took place at 7.10 am at the Mananui Dairy on James St.

"Two men entered the premises with their faces covered, carrying wooden weapons and stole cigarettes before fleeing the scene," he said.

Wylie said the dairy owner was in the shop at the time but was not injured.

Whakatane CIB were currently investigating the incident, and they ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and may have information that could assist to get in touch.
