The search for a man missing after his car plunged into the Kaituna River 12 days ago is now under review.
Maketu man Simon Oliver disappeared after a crash about 11pm on March 31.
Police, firefighters and Coastguard authorities scoured the river and shoreline for the 53-year-old but still have found no sign.
Inspector Karl Wright St-Clair said police were now reviewing their search efforts.
"We are looking at where we can go from here. Unfortunately, as time goes on, it becomes less likely that we will be able to locate Mr Oliver," Mr Wright St-Clair said.
"After the review is complete we will then decide whether to continue our current search, or suspend it until we receive new information. Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Mr Oliver at this time," he said.
