Police were called to Te Puke's Queen Street this afternoon when a person allegedly ran off with another person's wallet.
A police media spokeswoman said police were called at 12.34pm after a report that someone had taken off with a wallet and cellphone that had been dropped on the street.
"It sounds like they [the victim] dropped a wallet and someone's picked it up and run off," the spokeswoman said.
She said the victim was taken to the police station to give a statement and police officers patrolled the area to try and find the alleged offender.
