Police are trying to locate a fleeing driver of a car involved in high-speed pursuit around the streets of Pāpāmoa tonight who was last seen on the Te Puke Highway.
A police communication spokeswoman said the car was seen speeding on State Highway 2 near the Sandhurst Drive offramp at 8.12pm but failed to stop.
Police pursued the vehicle as the driver continued on at high speed onto Papamoa Beach Rd and after a prolonged chase around several streets, the pursuit was abandoned about 10-15 minutes later, she said.
The vehicle was last seen heading towards Te Puke.
The police spokesperson said police knew the registration number of the fleeing vehicle and were making inquiries.
